Tournament Qualifying Information

  • Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, reviewed each month with decisions status updates given to teams on the 1st of each month. The first round of decisions will go out on October 1st. Anyone who does not get accepted in the first round will be automatically rolled over into the next round.
  • A team can receive an automatic entry by achieving one of the following results:

Top 10, Beach Ball 2016

Top 10, Empire ATL

Top 10, Empire SF

Top 10, Empire NYC

Top 10, NorCal 2017

  • Automatic entry allows a team to basically leave an application blank, and be admitted. Teams who are attending one of the above tournaments need not wait before applying though; they can apply with a full application, and they will either gain admission through a review of said application, or their application will be held until the results of the automatic qualifier tournament that they are attending.
  • Our target field size is 40 teams, though it will depend on the quality and breadth of applications received.
  • Teams for Golden State are comprised of a minimum of 7 students, up to a maximum of 19 students (plus backups)
  • Applications are evaluated by committee, and we strive to create a diverse field of teams from across California. Other than automatic entries, no one factor is being prioritized. The committee looks for historically strong programs, emerging programs, geographic diversity, and application thoroughness/thoughtfulness when evaluating potential teams.
